Traveling
We enjoyed a beautiful drive to the Oregon Coast. It was amazing to see the contrasting beauty of Oregon. The Columbia River Gorge, the bridges, the abundant greenery, the farm fields and orchards, the waterfalls and the amazing views. We wanted to take advantage of the drive, so we made a lot of stops along the way.
Multnomah Falls
The last time I saw Multnomah Falls was in college. A group of us took my roommate home to Washington, and we of course stopped here on our way. It is such a powerful, beautiful and busy waterfall. We did not, however, attempt to climb to the top with our two small children. That would have been an awesome sight. However, we did give into peer pressure and purchase the $4.00 ice-cream cones when we were done.
We stayed overnight with my brother Bill's family. It was the first time we'd been to his self-sufficient farm:). They even roasted a pig (Mexican style) and had a party the night we showed up. They were very gracious hosts and it was so fun to see family. We also got to see the famous Harry Potter style tree house my brother built for his kids. Bill is a talented artist, and this was definitely a masterpiece, inside and out.
Astoria
I found myself, yet again, taking a lot of bridge pictures. I guess I was mildly obsessed with them on our drive. We made a last minute decision, and drove to the top of the Oregon Coast to see Astoria. We stopped at the Columbia River Maritime Museum and the Astoria Column. It was a fun town with charming homes and beautiful views. We wished we could have stayed longer and seen more.
Cannon Beach
Our first (real) view of the ocean and walk on the beach. And, the first ever for Kathryn in her life. As we walked over the sandy dune and down to the beach, my heart started to pound and I could not stop smiling. Michael and I later talked about how giddy we both were to see the ocean. Unfortunately, shortly after this stop, Michael got a $160 speeding ticket, which put a damper on the rest of our drive.
