Oregon Coast: Part Three

Yaquina Head Lighthouse
We made a quick stop at the lighthouse, and sadly, it was the only one we saw on our entire trip. However, it was beautiful, and so was the ocean view.

Whale Watching
One afternoon, we spontaneously decided to go whale watching.  We had a big enough group, so the company chartered another boat for us.  The water was choppy, but no one suffered...at least not too much.  As long as we stayed sitting or clung to the railing, we were safe.  We saw several whales, but unfortunately, I was never quick enough to capture them with my camera.

Oregon Coast Aquarium
We spent a few hours at the aquarium in Newport.  We loved seeing all the animal, but our very favorite were the seals and sea lions.  We could have watched them swim for hours and hours.  When we went into the gift shop for a souvenir to remember the aquarium, Kathryn picked out a stuffed sea lion.  It's her new favorite toy (thanks Grandma and Grandpa).

Newport
We spent some time walking around Newport (and Depot Bay, but no pictures).  We watched the (male) sea lions basking in the sun, Kathryn and Michael did a little crabbing, and we ate at the famous Mo's Restaurant. Which happens to have a garage door that is open to the street on nice days.  That was pretty cool.  And the chowder was delicious.

Deep Sea Fishing
Michael, his dad, his brothers, and three of the grand kids went deep sea fishing.  They caught their limit of fish and crab.  And later that night, we had a delicious sea food feast.

The perfect day
The day that we left was the most beautiful day.  It was sunny and warm and the beaches were swarmed with people.  It was absolutely the most perfect day.  Everyone loved playing in the sand, and a few braved the water.  We couldn't stay long, and I shed some tears at the thought of leaving.  It was the perfect ending to our fantastic trip.  And as we drove home, we asked ourselves, why on earth do we live in the desert?  We can't wait to go back!

Goodbye...
